Reverend Janet James, Pastor
Janet James has been serving as the Pastor of Gayton Kirk Presbyterian Church for five years. Janet has a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA, a Master of Education from East Tennessee State University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee. She has previously served as an Associate Pastor at Second Presbyterian Church in Richmond, VA. Janet served as the Moderator of the Presbytery of the James for 2011. Janet preaches and teaches regularly, serves as the Moderator of the Session and about a zillion other things that help keep the Kirk on the job of furthering God’s mission in the world.

B.J. Gilliland, Disbursing Treasurer
BJ Gilliland, also known to the staff as Most Wonderful BJ, keeps the Kirk running. BJ is a Western Pennsylvania native. Following high school, she graduated with an Executive Secretarial Degree from Robert Morris University )way back then it was a junior college). BJ moved to Virginia in 1995 to be near her daughter and family who live in Ashland. She was hired in May 1999 as the Kirk’s secretary. She also oversees business concerns and finances for the Kirk. Scrapbooking is one of her interests along with eating. She enjoys spending time at the beach (not often enough) and having fun with her friends.
Debbie Mueller, Director of Music
Deborah Sparks Mueller directs the church choirs: chancel and handbell, writes and directs the Christmas pageant and does a tremendous amount to further the music ministry of the Gayton Kirk. The Gayton Kirk has been blessed to have Debbie as the Music Director for 21 years. She is also the Director of the Center for the Arts. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Delaware with an emphasis in voice. She studied voice with Todd Duncan, the original Porgy in Gershwin’s “Porgy & Bess and has taught piano and voice for 37 years.
Jill Isola, Pastoral Assistant
Jill has a Master of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Theatre from Hope College in Holland, MI. Jill has previously served as a chaplain at Montreat Conference Center and a program director at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Midland, MI. In addition to regular duties of worship leadership, teaching, and technology support Jill is the pastoral staff resource to the Board of Deacons.
