The Gayton Kirk

Growing in Jesus Christ through worship, study and missions

The Kirk schedule is always full of chances to get involved, learn something new, or have fun.  We have a vibrant music ministry, many children and youth programs, and many different kinds of groups for fellowship and learning.  Check back often for new events!

June 13    During the 11:00 AM Worship Service the Chancel Choir will present
a collection of Spirituals. This service will be a time of festive singing
and celebrating as we praise God for working in our lives.

June 27   The musicians (ages 4 and older) and worship leaders will attend the
Montreat Music and Worship Conference in Montreat, North Carolina.
At the confernece they take classes, learn new music, work on art banners,
and have a lot of fun.

Wednesday Nights 7 PM during the Summer are GAME NIGHTS. Family fun for all ages
as we play dominos, have a ping pong ball tournament, and team up
for Trivia Pursuit. A wonderful time of relaxation and laughter.

July 12 - 17  the sanctuary becomes Egypt for the Vacation Bible School program.
Learning is fun with all the hands-on learning for ages 4 - 11.
This program is free. We welcome our neighborhood kids to join us!

July 17   7:00 PM Ray Carver portrays Mark Twain in Life on the Mississippi.
This two act play conveys Twain's remembrances of growing up along the
Mississippi River and the changes that took place during his lifetime.

July 20   The Senior High Youth Group leave Richmond to do mission work this summer
             in New York City. Last year they helped repair houses in Appalachia;
this year they will work in homeless shelters and food pantries to help
             the less fortunate.

Wednesday Afternoons 2 PM - 4 PM   OPEN STUDIO     This time is an opportunity
for artists and craft persons to bring individual projects to work on.
If you need assistance with your work, there's always someone around to
at least offer an opinion. This is a relaxed, supportive group - and, yes,
            they do get projects accomplished.

Worship Groups

Our Liturgical Dancers interpret song and Scripture during many of our worship services, presenting movements choreographed by the most experienced dancers.  Dancers of all skill levels, from just-learning to practically-professional, are welcome to join any time!

The Kirk Players, a multigenerational group, enacts Scripture and leads antiphonal readings during some worship services.  Their preparation includes studying and making sense of the Scripture for that particular worship day -- and thinking creatively about the Word!

Children's Art and Music

A time each week for the youngest members and friends of our congregation to do craft projects, learn about art, and explore the world of music.  Children will sing songs, play instruments, and create things to take home with them.  This fun time is taught by Rev Janet James and Debbie Mueller, and held every Sunday morning from 9:45 - 10:30.  Ages 4-5th grade.
For more information on any of these opportunities, contact Debbie Mueller.

The
visual artists in our congregation work together to add meaning to the worship.  Their works reinforce the Word being sung, danced, enacted, and preached.  Thoughtful use of visual elements is one of the responsibilities of the Worship Committee.  For more information on Visual Arts opportunities, and other creative outlets, go to the Center for the Arts page.

The Gayton Kirk Book Group meets the fourth Tuesday evening each month at 7:00. We meet in the homes of members. For more information about the Book Group's meeting place contact The Gayton Kirk office at gaytonkirk@yahoo.com.
