Small Group Ministry
at The Gayton Kirk
The members and friends of The Gayton Kirk have many talents, abilities, and interests, and since some folks have similar interests, we are inviting you to meet and share these with each other. Listed below are several newly formed groups. If one of the groups catches your eye, then please let the contact person know of your interest.
God's Gardeners (contact: Marion Collins) is a sub group of the Building and Grounds committee. This group is responsible for planning, planting and caring for the gardens at The Kirk. At this time there are nine garden spots in various stages of development: a rock garden is located at the entry into The Kirk; there are plans for a vegetable garden and worm farm near the basketball goal; the outdoor worship space created by Clay and Evan Davis’ Boy Scout Troop is being freshened up; there are plans for a walking trail through the woods, a butterfly garden, a herb garden, plantings around the Celtic Cross and a labyrinth.
The Book Club (contact: Sharon Adams) meets once a month, reads books of interest, not necessarily religious, but could be. The next meeting is March 17th at 7 PM at Sharon Adams’ house. We will discuss Three Cups of Tea aby Greg Mortenson. We had a great time discussing A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khalib Hosseini last month.
The Cooking Club (contact: Janice Baldwin) consists of a group of people who enjoy cooking and want to use their culinary interest to assist The Kirk by cooking food for families when a family member is in the hospital and to provide meals for The Kirk’s fund raising projects. Plans are to begin by meeting once a month and cook together in The Kirk’s kitchen.
The Art Group (contact: Janet James) On Thursday afternoons about 3 PM a group of us gather our art supplies and head to the Art Room at The Kirk. There we work on our own projects – be they acrylic, pastels, drawing or watercolor - within a supportive environment. We want to invite anyone who has an interest in arts or crafts to join us. We would be delighted if other folks joined us as they worked on knitting or a hand sewing project. We always conclude by 5 PM.
The Music Lunch Group (contact: Debbie Mueller) The Kirk staff invites you (and your friends) to join us for a free lunch and music on the last Tuesday of each month at 12:30. Debbie Mueller will give a presentation about a musician, we’ll listen to the music while we enjoy a simple meal and the company of each other.
The Kirk Players (contact: Debbie Mueller) will assist with one of the Scripture readings each month. The group meets on Sunday mornings.
We welcome people with all different kinds of abilities to join with us.

of painting and repairing cabins
at the Camp Hanover site.

Eastminster Presbyterian
Church: Free Store
Please remember our Eastminster
Project the next time you are grocery shopping. They are in the need of
toilet tissue, bar soap, deodorant, toothbrushes (adult/child) and laundry detergent (family size). Eastminster Presbyterian distributes “Invitations” to one building
in the neighborhood (40± homes) every
other month and distributes to the entire
neighborhood (250± homes) over the
year. This allows the residents to come
to the “Free Store”, on a Sunday
afternoon, and collect items (4 rolls
of toilet paper, deodorant for women
and men, toothbrushes for each
member of the family, toothpaste
and laundry detergent).
They also offer a food pantry and
clothing when available. Eastminster
will continue this “Free Store” every
other month and we would like to
continue to help them with this project.
You can help by purchasing the
items listed and placing them in
the basket located in the narthex
or by attending a distribution Sunday
and meeting and talking with some
of the people that are served with
this Mission.
Thank you to all who have participated,
this has been a fun and rewarding
experience for The Gayton Kirk and
for Eastminster.
